Event safety website launched
Following the success of HS(G)195 ‘The event safety guide – a guide to health, safety and welfare at music and similar events’, HSE has launched a new event safety micro-site. This new website contains updated health and safety guidance aimed at helping event organisers comply with their legal duties. Designed to be a ‘portal’ for information, the new site also provides convenient links to guidance on other event related matters including event licensing.

One question that gets asked a lot is ‘how much is CHAS?’ and why is there a CHAS accreditation fee? The answer is not one figure.
So what is the answer?
CHAS falls into two basic camps, 1-4 employees and 5+ employees. As you would expect more documentation is needed for a larger company.�
The next consideration is whether you have all the documentation. Meaning if you have been through health safety training for your company, you may have all the documents already. But a lot of companies don’t and this is where they come unstuck.
That’s why you see companies like ours and others helping you get CHAS accreditation and why you are wondering about the CHAS accreditation fee.
The hard work is getting the form filled in correctly first time and to the degree that keeps the CHAS governing body happy. We have heard of some compaines doing it themselves and taking 2 weeks to get everything in place. Surely you would agree that this is waste of your time and efforts.
The form filing is different every time because not every company is the same.
The CHAS governing body charge for the certificate is
£210 + VAT for 5+ employees
£140 + VAT for 1-4 employees
The certificate you have to pay for, and this has to be paid to the governing body directly.

Pipeline safety regulations consultation analysis
Consultation on began on 7 December 2009 and ended on 1 March 2010. In addition to making the CD available to any party via the HSE website, over 100 stakeholder organisations in the pipeline industry and other relevant sectors were approached directly for a response. All key stakeholders responded to the consultation.
An analysis of the responses to each question raised in the consultation document (CD) is set out in the following document. The numbers and percentages included relate to the 29 consultees who responded to the questions in the CD. Not all respondents addressed all of the questions set in the consultation.

Generic Design Assessment of new nuclear reactors seminar
This seminar formed part of our consultations on the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) of two new nuclear reactor designs (AP1000 submitted by Westinghouse and UK EPR submitted by EDF and AREVA). The consultations were launched on 28 June 2010 and will close on 18 October 2010.
The day – which was attended by a wide range of stakeholders – involved a mix of presentations and opportunities for participants to discuss, feedback opinion and ask questions in relation to the issues raised. The programme included a range of speakers from the Environment Agency and other organisations involved in new nuclear build (see below). It was independently facilitated by Icarus Collective.
