There are many reasons why you may need to be CHAS registered and accredited, but the one compelling reason is that it allows you to work in both the public and private sector.
For instance, a local council will say that we require you to be CHAS qualified to:
- Tender for contracts with the local Council or main contractor
- Avoid duplication of submitting multiple H&S Questionnaires to clients
- Avoid being assessed as compliant by one employer but not another
- To be considered for contracts that you previously would not have been shortlisted for
- Save time and money for all parties.
The CHAS Assessment Scheme is a non-commercial, government run scheme. CHAS has been developed over quite a number of years by local government health & safety professionals, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive.
The major benefit though is that you are demonstrating that you are a forward thinking company and have systems in place that mark you above your competition. It may also be that the local council has just had a change and now requires its contractors to be CHAS registered. Certainly we have helped several companies become CHAS accredited that have been working for the local council for years, but who now require CHAS accreditation.
The CHAS qualification is also more than just a sticker on your van. People do use the CHAS database to access companies for jobs they need doing. This means they know the people are already CHAS accredited and have been proved capable of doing the work.
Clients from both the public and private sectors use the CHAS Assessment Scheme to make assessments of contractors in this way. One of the benefits to contractors is that by making a successful CHAS application, you can demonstrate to a wide number of potential clients that you achieve or exceed the minimum standards laid down by the CHAS Assessment scheme.
